Privacy Policy

Opia is a real-world action app — location-based side quests, memory pins, and shared moments. We keep data collection minimal: we collect what makes the app work, and nothing more. This policy covers what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.

What we collect

• Your name and email address (from sign-up with email, or from Apple Sign-In)
• An optional profile photo, if you choose to add one
• Your precise location, used only while the app is open, to show nearby quests, reveal memory pins, and record where a quest was completed
• Photos and videos you capture and submit for quests and memory pins
• Text you write — captions, memory-pin stories, and comments
• Your onboarding answers, which set your starting identity scores (Exploration, Social, Creativity, Awareness)
• A push notification token, if you allow notifications

Your in-app character is generated from your onboarding identity scores only. We do not analyze your face or photos to build it.

How we use it

Your data powers your account, identity scores, quest history, memory pins, and the public community feed ("The World"). Location is used only in the foreground, while the app is open — there is no background tracking. We never sell your data and never use it for advertising.

Content moderation

To keep the community safe, content you post publicly is automatically screened before and after it appears:

• Photos and videos are scanned by Google Cloud Vision for unsafe content.
• Captions and post text are screened by Anthropic's Claude AI.

Posts may also be reviewed by a human moderator. Content that violates our rules can be removed.

Third-party services

• Firebase / Google Cloud — authentication, database, file storage, cloud functions, and push notifications
• Google Maps — map display and location features
• Google Cloud Vision API — automated moderation of uploaded photos and videos
• Anthropic (Claude AI) — automated moderation of post text and captions
• Expo Push Service — delivers push notifications
• Sentry — crash and error diagnostics, to help us fix bugs

No analytics or advertising SDKs are present in this app. We include Sentry for crash and error diagnostics; it captures technical crash data (such as device type and the error itself) to help us fix problems, and is not used for advertising or tracking.

Data retention

Your data is stored while your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, quest history, memory pins, comments, and uploaded media are permanently deleted. Posts in the public feed are anonymized — your display name is replaced with "Deleted User." Deletion completes within 30 days.

International transfers

Opia is based in Canada. Your data is stored on Google Cloud servers, primarily in Canada and the United States. Google's Standard Contractual Clauses cover EU/UK data transfers. Anthropic processes moderation data in the United States under its own privacy program.

Children

Opia is not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

Wherever you are, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of your personal data
• Correction — fix inaccurate information
• Erasure — delete your account and all associated data
• Portability — receive your data in a structured format
• Objection — object to how we process your data
• Withdrawal — withdraw consent at any time

To exercise any of these rights, go to Settings → Delete Account inside the app, or email opiaapp.admin@gmail.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
