Welcome to Opia. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
You must be at least 13 years old. If you're under the age of majority where you live, you confirm a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms on your behalf.
You sign up with your email or with Apple Sign-In. You're responsible for keeping your account secure and for activity that happens under it. Provide accurate information and keep it current.
Opia turns the real world into location-based side quests and memory pins. You complete quests in 2–15 minutes, capture a photo or short video as proof, and can share moments to the public community feed ("The World"), where you and others can like and comment. Your in-app identity (Exploration, Social, Creativity, Awareness) evolves based on the quests you take on.
You may not:
You own the photos, videos, and text you create. By posting to the public feed, you grant Opia a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host and display that content within the app and services. You're responsible for everything you post, and you confirm you have the right to share it.
Public content is automatically screened (images and video by Google Cloud Vision; text by Anthropic's Claude AI) and may also be reviewed by a human. We may remove content, or suspend or terminate accounts, that violate these terms — with or without notice.
Opia encourages you to go outside and engage with the real world. You are solely responsible for your own safety while completing quests or visiting locations. Follow the law, respect private property, and use your judgment. Some quests involve mild social discomfort by design, but participation is always voluntary — you can skip any quest. Opia is not liable for any injury, loss, or damage arising from your activities.
The Opia name, logo, character system, and app design belong to Opia. Don't use them without written permission. Your own content remains yours.
You can delete your account anytime in Settings → Delete Account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. On deletion, your data is handled per our Privacy Policy.
Opia is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Opia is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ottawa, Ontario.
We may update these terms as the app evolves. We'll notify you of material changes in the app. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
